2022 Amazon Careers in Cape Town, Western Cape, SA – Software Development Manager, Support API, AWS Support Kumo

Website Amazon

Kumo is the global product and engineering organization for AWS Support. Kumo provides software and technology services that intelligently anticipate and resolve AWS customer needs, helping them adopt, optimize and operate within the AWS cloud at scale. The public Support API (SAPI) service allows large enterprise support customers to integrate support into their business. SAPI is a core AWS Support product, built on native AWS technologies, multi-region redundant and highly available.

Kumo aims to identify our customers’ needs across all AWS services before they do, and seamlessly deliver the most appropriate resolution for those needs, fulfilling the vision of a self-healing cloud over time. Kumo has a broad portfolio of customer-facing services, such as: AWS Support API, AWS Support Center, Trusted Advisor, and AWS Health. Kumo also has various services serving the AWS Support business and support engineers such as: Command Center, Case Console, Automation, Recommendations & Insights, AWS Knowledge center, and many more.

By joining AWS Kumo, you will work with all AWS customers, from big and diverse enterprises to small cutting-edge start ups, helping them achieve success in their cloud journeys. We are a fast-growing, agile and collaborative group of individuals from diverse backgrounds located across the globe. We are driven by the excitement of building technologies, inventing products and providing services that transform the way our customers run their businesses. Our industry-leading product portfolio cuts across a wide range of technologies (such as Machine Learning and Distributed Systems) at high scale, while offering opportunities to build highly available systems with Native AWS services. We combine the culture of a startup, the innovation and creativity of an R&D Lab, the work-life balance of a mature organization and AWS-scale technical challenges.

You will lead and develop the Subsidium team that owns the AWS Support API (SAPI) public service. This is an existing team owning a core AWS Support product. Over the past year, SAPI has been completely re-built from a legacy service built on internal AWS technologies to a modern service built on native AWS products, such as ALB, Elastic Container Service (ECS), Fargate, and EventBridge. Because the service is foundational to AWS Support, it has been re-built as a multi-region, highly available service, running active-active stacks. The strong foundation that was created in 2022 sets up the service and team for great innovation opportunities in 2023 and beyond.

To manage such a key product, the ideal candidate must have a strong technical background in software engineering, be able to earn trust with and develop an existing highly-skilled development team, and comfortable in communicating with various stakeholders at different levels.

As the leader of the team, you will also be responsible for setting a high operational bar; driving high availability and scalability of your service; and hiring and developing the best engineers to deliver features that delight our customers. You will have significant leadership responsibility to define the team’s vision and goals, engage closely with stakeholders, product partners and customers, and manage delivery of short, medium and long-term plans.
