Mpumalanga’s name means ‘east’ or ‘place where the sun rises’ in Zulu, Swazi, Ndebele, and Xhosa languages. The province contributes to 6.5% of the countries land area and before 1994, it was known as Eastern Transvaal. The province has an exquisite archaeological heritage, with landscapes covered in Bokoni stone walls- established between 1500 and 1820 A.D.
