The Business Development Manager will be tasked with targeting and identifying customer base to develop into significant revenue generation and growth of market share, planning and overseeing new marketing initiatives, researching organizations and individuals to find new opportunities, and finding and developing new markets and improving sales. He\she will develop business relationships that would lead to clear growth opportunities, assist in developing goals and business growth and ensuring they are met as well as attend conferences, meetings, and industry events. Report Management and people Management are an integral part of this role. The Business Development Manager will be expected to comply with Health, Safety and Environment policies and risk management.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Meetings and Quotations

Indicator/Input

  • Identify clients in the allocated target market
  • Conduct site visits to understand the customer needs
  • Listen to customer requirements.
  • Recommend the appropriate waste management solutions
  • Negotiate the terms of an agreement
  • Issue Quotations using Salesforce
  • Close the Deal

Targets/Output

  • R1mil per month sales
  • A minimum of 5 client visits per week

2. Tender Management        

Indicator/Input

  • Participate in the client tender process
  • Lead the tender process locally
  • Ensure submission on time and in line with client requirements
  • Manage the tender follow-up process
  • Close the Deal

  • R1mil per month sales
  • On time submission of tenders

3. Identify potential business opportunities and marketing strategies

Indicator/Input

  • Identify marketing strategies and interesting calendar events
  • Build monthly competitive analysis
  • Build Sector targets
  • Identify sister companies and subsidiary companies for existing clients/ targets
  • Negotiate on the prices
  • Send quotations for potential business opportunities

Targets/Output

  • 25 – 35% profitability margin
  • Keep a database of competitors and market pricing

4. Report Management

Indicator/Input

  • Weekly reporting of action plans targeting industries and / or geographical areas.
  • Weekly report of meetings conducted and possible outcome and activities
  • Report potential findings at exhibitions/events attended
  • Build marketing strategy
  • Build Sector penetration strategy
  • Build competitive ecosystem analysis and advise on growth tactics
  • Advice and assist in closing M&As
  • Identify Market shares and assess sector total market size

  • 100% accuracy
  • On time submission

5. People Management

Indicator/Input

  • Support the team, optimising talents and growing individuals
  • Develop and maintain teamwork among all teams promoting the sharing of ideas and best practice
  • Report non-compliance cases and initiate actions as per ‘Managing Capability and Discipline Concerns Policy’

Targets/Output

  • 80% Engagement Level of the team
  • 100% completion of Performance Management
  • Under performance addressed

6. Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)

Indicator/Input

  • Exercise due diligence towards health and safety of self and others in the organization
  • Comply with the applicable HSE procedures, instructions, requirements, standards received from regulatory and statutory bodies
  • Proactively report superior occurrences, events, violations and acts that may impact employee health, safety or environment

Targets/Output

  • 100% compliance

7. Risk management

Indicator/Input

  • Analyse current risks and identify potential risks in the area of responsibility
  • Report the risk tailored to the relevant audience
  • Build risk awareness amongst team by providing support and training

Targets/Output

  • Well defined risk in the result area
  • On-Time and In-Full (OTIF) reporting

Desired Experience & Qualification

Experience 

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in customer facing role
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in dealing with large blue-chip companies, specifically FMCG, packaging industries and automotive industries
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in management of tender processes
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in dealing with commercial industries (FMCG, Retails, Food Manufacturing, Automotive etc.)
  • Proven track record and industry experience in the commercial industries

Qualifications

  • Business, Marketing, or relevant technical qualification
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) (advantageous)
