African Group Lubricants (AG Lubricants) is currently recruiting for an experienced and qualified HSE Officer to join our dynamic team.

Job Purpose

Responsible for the overall Safety, Health and Environment systems and processes for the blending plant. The HSE Officer is also responsible for implementing, maintaining, and controlling all legal compliance requirements, including compliance to the OHS Act and new amendments of the act, all Health, Safety and Environmental Permits and Authorizations. With respect to day-today operational requirements, the HSE Officer shall be responsible for conducting risk assessments (Hazard identification, unsafe conditions and preventative measures), SHE inspections, incident and accident investigations (Root cause preventive measures), and Health and Safety meetings.

Duties & Responsibilities

Legal Compliance

  • Maintain a legal compliance register through timeous closure of legal compliance audit findings and facilitate periodic audits at defined intervals as per schedule
  • Maintain Compliance of the OHS Act and new amendments of the act Reviews
  • Ensure compliance of all Health, Safety and Environmental Permits and Authorizations
  • Liaise with relevant regulatory bodies, including Department of Labour when necessary
  • Ensure that all fire fighting equipment is adequate and correct

Risk Management Assessments

  • Risk assessments
  • Incidents/Accident Investigations
  • Permit to Work (PtW)
  • Conduct and review risk assessments (HIRA) – Hazard identification, unsafe conditions and preventative measures and facilitate closure of finding through line managers
  • Enforce the permit to work procedure, including monitoring of compliance by employees and contractors
  • Develop, implement and review safe work procedures
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations, including identification of root cause and implementation of corrective and preventative measures.
  • Conduct internal audits in accordance with ISO 9001, 14001 and ISO 45001 standards

Plant Inspections

  • Develop inspection registers and checklists, and facilitate inspections with departmental SHE Reps
  • Ensure all signage throughout the plant is appropriate, adequate and correct

Training

  • Health & Safety Training
  • Contractor Management
  • Identify and co-ordinate any training needs regarding SHE related issues together with the HR department
  • Conduct induction training for new employees and visitors
  • Facilitate and conduct toolbox talks, drawing from lessons learnt from incidents and best practices
  • Enforcing of section 37 of the OHS Act with contractors

HSE Performance

  • HSE Culture
  • HSE Reporting
  • Implement and drive HSE culture change initiatives
  • Generate and provide monthly HSE performance reports – Lost time injury frequencies; spillages; non-conformances; and incident trends
  • Conduct Health and Safety Committee meetings and ensure that all agreed action points are completed within deadlines

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Diploma in Safety or SAMTRAC/NEBOSH equivalence
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing or related industry
  • HSE culture driver
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Proficient in Microsoft Power Point
